Double Mountain Porter a Go Go, Deschutes Jubel, and Full Sail Collin’s Dark Secret
There's never a dull moment in the Portland beer scene, and the next several days are no exception. Here's a look at a few notable happenings around town to keep you busy:
Double Mountain Porter a Go Go
While Kyle Larsen gave us a heads up that Porter a Go Go was going to be released a couple weeks ago at Double Mountain's Hood River taproom, the beer makes its Portland debut tonight at EastBurn. While there isn't any information posted on EastBurn's website about the event, I did see this tweet from EastBurn and this blog post from Double Mountain promising $3 pints of Porter a Go Go from 6:00-9:00pm, and chance to meet the brewers and win some free stuff.
Double Mountain describes the beer as:
“You can’t get through winter without a nicely balanced, subtle porter. London Porters historically were the darker ales brewed for the working man, usually less roasty than their stout cousins. Our Porter combines chocolate and crystal malts balanced in the Double Mountain style, with whole-leaf Challengers in the hop back, and our Belgian house yeast. Moderate strength, so you can have a few. Brewed with organic Pilsner malt, chocolate malt and dark crystal malts, Summit and Challenger hops. 5.0% ABV, 32 BU.”
EastBurn is located at 1800 East Burnside Street in Portland. I'll plan on being there tonight. Do you need directions and a map?
Deschutes Jubel
There's been a lot of talk about Deschutes Brewery's once-in-a-decade beer, and it looks like we'll finally be able to get our hands on the 2010 release tomorrow, February 5th, at the Portland Pub. According to the Brewery's website, the event starts at 2:00pm and the first 100 people in the door will receive a souvenir Jubel 2010 goblet. It looks like Jubel will be available on draft and in 22 oz. bottles, with a purchase limit of 6 bottles per person. Read more about Jubel 2010 here.
The Portland Pub is located at 210 NW 11th Ave in Portland. I will not be one of the first 100 people at the event tomorrow, but do hope to stop by at some point tomorrow night to see what this year's Jubel is all about. If for some reason you don't know where the Deschutes Brewery is, this map will help.
Full Sail Collin's Dark Secret
Next up in Full Sail's Brewer's Share beer series is Packaging Manager Collin Godkin's recipe: Collin's Dark Secret. The beer will be available next week with a release party in Portland on Tuesday, February 9th from 5:00 - 6:30pm. After having the last Brewer's Share beer from Cole Hackbarth, I'm looking forward to this one. I received this info about the beer via press release:
"Collin Godkin, Full Sail's Packaging Manager, is the proud brewer of the newest Brewer's Share beer from Full Sail Brewing. The Brewer's Share small batch program provides an opportunity for Full Sail employees to show off their brewing skills and creativity. Collin's beer, named "Collin's Dark Secret", is an American dark brown ale with a delicious blend of northwest hops brewed with Northwest and European malts. Just the right amount of dark malt gives this brew a subtle cocoa and sweet spice aroma with a wonderful malty flavor all balanced with a delicate hop character. It is a beer designed to help you glide through the rest of winter and you may find yourself asking for more than one in an attempt to unlock this brew's dark secret. "The beer is dark and my inspiration for brewing it is a secret, hence the name. My goal, not so secret - to produce an easy drinking dark ale. It's my official drink for viewing the 2010 Winter Olympics," said Full Sail's Collin Godkin. ABV 6.2% IBU 31"
Unfortunately, this will be the second Full Sail event in as many weeks that I'll be missing out on due to my travel schedule. If you're in town, check out the event on Tuesday at 307 Southwest Montgomery Street in Portland.

While I won't be able to make it to all the release events, I'm looking forward to trying each of these new beers at some point in the next week. I'll be curious to hear what everyone has to say about any or all of them.
